Offline DD Players - so far it's a blast

Enjoyed Moments last year and Showdown this year has been really addictive.

SDS/THE SHOW are the offline 'card collection' mode gamer's wish come true.

I haven't even touched the other modes yet like relocating teams and such.

I'm like in heaven right now!

This is my first time touching the DD mode. I paid 100 dollars for the game, primarily to support the devs. Then, I thought, why not try it

Problem is that I don’t quite understand it. I don’t like playing online and it looks like you have to play online in that mode. I did some initial teambuilding and I was really happy with some of the cards I pulled out of my bonus packs.

Right now I’m playing my first game with my team and it’s user versus CPU. Took me forever just to find that.

What is SDS? You mentioned that in your post

ya you dont need to play online to earn things. offline is just fine. id suggest start with Conquest - they have a simple Tim Tebow map there for beginners. It's basically like the board game RISK but baseball. There's also the entire USA map which will take longer and they have other maps too.

Moments try out as well - all offline. Do the first Moments w/ the historical teams , it's all on rookie mode.

Showdown is new and the first challange is pretty fun and addictive.

      SDS is San Diego Studios.

Since you preordered, you will receive packs. Open them up and get players and some are where you choose players and legends. Do that and if you go to the team page where you pick your starters, you can adjust things there or hit the start button and the CPU will make the team for you using your best players.

I've never spent any real money on this mode and did everything off line and still had fun.

Thanks for the reply and the info. I should have known SDS But my mind was telling me were referencing a mode that I didn’t know

One thing that is frustrating me is that when I do a play v. CPU I can’t see who the computer pitcher is going to be so I cant adjust my lineup accordingly.

ya that's by design. maybe someone else can explain why they took that approach.

at least this year you can choose your starting pitcher. before this year, it was chosen by random.

You can actually figure it out this year, unlike previous years, at least in Conquest.

I have finished the first two conquest maps (starter and 1st inning) and here is what I have found.

If you start your highest rated pitcher then the CPU will start their highest rated pitcher. So, if you are playing Washington in those modes and do not want to face Scherzer or Strasburg then you want to choose your 3rd best, or lower, starter.

It does this by ratings so you can't fool the system by setting your best pitcher as your #5 starter.

Any tips on the first inning map? I played these maps all last year, and for some reason, I cannot make up any ground on this map. I take spots just to lose others. Just for clarity sake, I hate conquest, so that is not helping me out.

I enjoy conquest but only on legend difficulty to make it competitive.

There are already tips on YouTube for this years maps. Suggest you go there first.

Im Get a bit tired of conquest by April but I do like how they are providing more content.

This is how I did it (and my basic strategy for all maps). Your mileage may vary but in the end I found it no more or less difficult than any of the maps last year.
                    1. Encircle my stronghold by a two hex buffer on all sides, only 1 fan per hex.
                    2. Steal fans during one or two games to meet the steal fans requirement. I do this to the team I am most likely to attack first.
                    3. Grab every uncontested hex that I can easily grab.
                    4. Take over the first stronghold. This gives you some breathing room. If for some reason you lose a stronghold you won't end the run.
                    5. During these phases and for the rest of the run keep an eye on your strongholds. If someone breaks the buffer with more than 2 fans then on the next turn reinforce there and push them back.
                    6. Work your way around the map stealing strongholds as you come across them. I always stack all of my reinforcements on a single square. Are the sims sometimes brutal to me? Yes, but they are also sometimes brutal to the CPU and since I do not split my reinforcements I always have them outnumbered.

Never once did I leave more than a single fan on any hex.
I never had to defend a stronghold
I never had to play above veteran difficulty

I have a gripe about Showdown....I get to the Showdown parts (red, must complete to continue) and all of a sudden it is blasting my music and not using any of the presentation.

To me this is incredibly distracting and I can't hear anything. I can't play that way. I don't get why it just suddenly does that only in showdown.

For the record, in my experience the computer will never attack a stronghold if you leave 3 fans there, so you can just leave a stronghold to get swamped while you go off conquering more bases and as long as you leave 3 people there, you will be fine.

I just take out strongholds and then backfill when I feel like it, I never waste reinforcements on random hexagons or anything.

The most annoying thing about conquest for me is that the AI plays be entirely different rules than you. If you want to attack with a stronghold, you essentially abandon that stronghold and leave 1 fan in it. The computer can attack with a stronghold and then keep all their fans in the stronghold too. That stuff bothers me to no end on principle alone.

I thought no offline mode could infuriate me as much as playing online but Showdown is giving Ranked Seasons a run for its money. One game, crushing the ball. Next game, 7 innings without a hit. Guess which one was an elimination challenge?

Worst part is I don't think there's any really chance to complete programs without the points from Showdown (which, of course, costs Stubs to enter). Feel like offline players are just being taxed this year.

May be singing a different tune if I was better at hitting I guess but man, really regretting my purchase tonight.

So tried online Ranked Seasons and it wasn't too bad. Lost my first game 5-4 and won the other game 4-3. Good thing was the matchmaking looks to be working as my opponents had 'beginner' players like me and no diamonds.
