Rangers Cruise Behind Padilla
Vincente Padilla won his first start of the season for TEX
Rangers 8, Devil Rays 4

Michael Young continued his great season with his 5th HR

Arlington, TX -- Casey Fossum didn't exactly have the best day of his life in the series opener between the Devil Rays and Texas Rangers. The left hander threw just two innings against the Rangers before getting the hook, as Fossum allowed four quick runs on seven hits. Ian Kinsler and Michael Young both made life hard on Fossum with back to back homers before his departure.

Vicente Padilla, on the other hand, was outstanding for Texas. Through eight innings, the righty had allowed just one run on only a handful of hits by the Tampa Bay offense. Despite allowing a few more runs to come plateward in the ninth, Padilla earned his first win of the season and the Rangers improved upon their AL West-best record.

Rangers Sting Devil Rays with Comeback
Texas scored five runs in final three innings for W
Rangers 5, Devil Rays 4

Hank Blalock was 1-3 with 2 RBI on the afternoon

Arlington, TX -- After six innings, the Rangers finally realized the game against Tampa Bay was actually winnable. For the previous five, the Devil Rays were wiping the floor with Texas, beating them 4-0 in front of their home crowd. Then, against TB starter Josh Shields, the Rangers finally put something together to score three in the sixth inning.

Shields departed after the disappointing inning that allowed the Rangers to sneak to within one of the Devil Rays, but things only got worse for the visiting Tampa Bay team after that. Reliever Seth McClung gave up two more runs on five hits to allow the Rangers to complete their comeback and claim their seventh win of the season.

Re: Texas Rangers (MLB 2K7)

Rangers Scrap for Sweep
Five hits was enough for a win over TB
Rangers 2, Devil Rays 1

Casey Fossum started and lost his second start of the series

Arlington, TX -- Because of extensive fatigue plaguing the rotation early on this season, the Devil Rays sent lefty Casey Fossum to the hill for the second time in the series against the Texas Rangers. Just a couple of days ago, Fossum threw just two innings in a loss against Texas, but a new day brought new results for the Tampa Bay starter.

Fossum took a no-hitter into the fifth inning against the Rangers, but the miracle outing was shattered when Hank Blalock singled into center field with nobody out. A few innings later, the Rangers were knocking on the door for the first runs of the ball game, as the hometown club loaded the bases with no outs. Ian Kinsler struck out despite chants from the crowd, but Michael Young delivered with a two-RBI double into the left-center gap.

Eric Gagne came on to work the ninth for the Rangers, and despite giving up a run, earned his third save of the season and his second of the series.

Kenny Lofton was injured in the first inning of the contest attempting to make a diving catch near the outfield wall. The speedy veteran was placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained wrist. Marlon Byrd will step in to fill in the void in center field until Lofton is able to return.

Sosa Powers Texas to Win
Sammy Sosa hits first HR of 2007 season
Rangers 3, Mariners 2

Sammy Sosa celebrates after going yard in Seattle

Seattle, WA -- Jarrod Wasburn was solid on the bump for the Seattle Mariners, but a few crucial mistakes cost him the ball game. A high fastball thrown to Sammy Sosa was among these mistakes, as the aging veteran deposited the delivery into the bleachers for his first HR of the year. Later, the mistakes continued as Washburn gave up RBI-singles to Marlon Byrd and Michael Young.

Jamey Wright had a solid outing for the Rangers, allowing only two hits in just over seven innings of work. The bullpen allowed a couple of runs in the eighth inning before giving way to Eric Gagne in the ninth, who recorded his fourth save of the year.

Bullpen Falters in Texas Loss
Wes Littleton is pinned with loss in contest
Rangers 6, Mariners 7

Yuniesky Betancourt delivered his first HR of the year in game two

Seattle, WA -- Kameron Loe and Miguel Batista both departed after allowing four earned runs, leaving the game with three innings left and a deadlocked score. Chris Reitsma entered the game for the Mariners, and looked shaky after giving up four hits and a quick run to the Texas offense. The Rangers countered with Wes Littleton, who promptly surrendered two earned runs on five hits in just over an inning of work.

Hits were definitely aplenty in this contest, as the Rangers totaled seventeen and the Mariners responded with thirteen of their own. The lone big fly of the afternoon came from Seattle's Yuniesky Betancourt, and the blast led the Mariners to the one-run victory.

Mariners Triumph in Tenth
Adrian Beltre's double seals the deal for Seattle
Rangers 1, Mariners 2 (10)

Ichiro scored the game winning run in the tenth inning

Seattle, WA -- Through nine innings, the Mariners and Rangers were deadlocked at one after the offenses sputtered in the series finale. A few would-be rallies were stifled by more lucky pitching than anything else, and both benches became frustrated several times throughout the contest.

Vicente Padilla went six frames for Texas, scattered six hits, and allowed an earned run. At the end of the day, though, it was Bruce Chen that allowed Ichiro to get on base and Adrian Beltre to knock him in with an RBI-double, pinning the Rangers with their second straight loss.

WP: J.J. Putz (1-1) - .1 IP

Re: Texas Rangers (MLB 2K7)

White Sox Dominate in Opener
Brandon McCarthy roughed up in return to Chicago
Rangers 2, White Sox 7

Jon Garland allowed eleven hits, but left with a no decision

Chicago, IL -- In game one of this series, the former-White Sox player, Brandon McCarthy, took the hill for the Rangers against his old squad. The young righty didn't pitch as well as he would have hoped, giving up four earned runs in just five innings of work in the Windy City. His opposition, Jon Garland, didn't fare too much better. The veteran gave up two runs of his own after giving up eleven hits to the Rangers in just over five innings of work.

In the end, though, Jim Thome's home run and the offense of Chicago was too much for the Rangers in the series' opener, and the Sox cruised to the easy 7-2 victory.

Marlon Byrd was injured early on in the contest after colliding with the outfield wall. The replacement center fielder, who had been filling in for Kenny Lofton, will be out for four days with a strained rotator cuff. Jerry Hairston Jr. will take Byrd's spot in CF.

WP: Matt Thornton (1-0) - 3.1 IP, 2 K, H
