Re: Ottawa Senators #2(NHL 08 XBOX 360)

Senators: NHL Report: Pre-Season

Ottawa has a busy year ahead of them with 10 players on the final year of their contract. Only a few are unrestricted but with Heatley and Spezza both needing new contracts Ottawa will find it hard to keep them both. Ottawa at the moment has just 2 million in cap space and will not be busy in the free agent market this year.

Ottawa came off a Stanley cup Finals run last year and hope to win it all this year. Ottawa once again has a very strong team that can hit hard, skate fast and most importantly, score. Alfredsson is the leader of this team and is going into his 13th season with Ottawa, he is a great all-round player that can put up 30-50 goals a year along with 50-70 assists. Ottawa also has the most prolific score in Dany Heatley who has scored 50 goals twice in two seasons. Heatley has a chance to score every game with one of the best playmakers in the game, Jason Spezza. Spezza is adept at making big plays and has a powerful shot to go along with his playmaking ability. Mike Fisher is probably one of the most underrated centers in the NHL. He is a feirce hitter that can forecheck well and put a few pucks in the net as well. Shubert has moved up to play forward this year instead of defense but he is one of the best forecheckers on Ottawa and hits with a lot of force. If any injuries occur on defense he will be moved back there in an instant and McGratton will be dressed. McGratton rarely played last year and usually came in the game to fight.

On defense Ottawa has strong defensive 1-4 D-men but the 5 and 6 defensemen are offensive players that get a lot of time on the powerplay. Phillips and Volchenkov are the shut down line and will get most of the playing time against the top lines of opposing teams. Jamie Allison came up from the minors to replace Schubert at the 6 spot. Allison has played in the minors for his career so far and will finally get his chance to play full time, if he stutters, Schubert will most likely go back to defense and Allison back to the minors.

Overall Ottawa brings another cup contender to the table this year and should be a top 4 team in the Eastern division. Ottawa starts the season October 3rd in Toronto and has the home opener on the 4th against Toronto, just like last season.

Re: Ottawa Senators #2(NHL 08 XBOX 360)

Senators: AHL Report: Pre-Season

Binghamton is hoping to have a succesful year after placing last in their division last year. Hamel, Hennessey and Heerema make for a very dangerous first line and will put up a ton of points. Payer on the second line and Bois on the third should put up some points aswell. Other than that the rest of the the offense is sub par and will not put up exceptional amounts of points.

The Bingo defense is also fairly weak. No stand out players to mention aside from Allison who may come back down to gain some more experience if he stutters in the pro's.

The real strength of Binghampton. The goalies. Kelly Guard is suspect of going to the NHL to replace Gerber to give Ottawa more cap room. If that were to happen Gerber would play in the AHL giving Bingo a star goalie. Jeff Glass backs up for Guard and is very agile and can move across the net very quickly to stop the one-timers and shots off rebounds.
