Verlander Blanks Twins 4-0 Detroit (AP) - It seems Justin Verlander took a trip back down memory lane to find his good stuff for this one. Verlander was near impossible to make solid contact off and had his control show up today en route to a 8.1 IP scoreless performance. He scattered 8 hits, all singles, walked just 1 and Kd 7. The lone trouble he got into all game came in the 9th inning when he managed to get runners on the corners with 1 out, but Brandon Lyon would come in and promptly induce a double play ball from Jason Kubel to end the game. Re: Lan's Minnesota Twins (The Show 09)

Twins Return the Favor, SO Tigers 3-0 Detroit (AP) - Well, there's an answer for you. After being shutout by Justin Verlander and the Tigers yesterday the Twins went ahead and shut the Tigers 3-0. Not only did they shut them out, but Francisco Liriano turned in an absolute gem on the mound. He carried a no hitter through 6 until it was broken up by Magglio Ordonez. Liriano improved to 4-0 with the win and went a total of 96 pitches over 7 innings giving up just 2 hits, 2 walks, and struckout a season-high 9. Jesse Crain picked up his 3rd hold of the season, and Joe Nathan slammed the door shut, striking out 2 in the 9th to pick up save number 6. Armando Galarraga was a bit of a hard luck loser in this one. All 3 of the runs he allowed were unearned and came in the 3rd inning. He did, however, give up 9 hits so he wasn't particularly effective regardless. The Tigers bullpen combined to pitch four innings of scoreless relief between Seay, Rodney, and Dolsi to try and give their boys a chance to win but it was for naught. The Twins improved to 17-10 with the win and are now 8-2 in their last 10, and 8-3 against AL Central opponents. They are now heading off for a short two game road trip to Baltimore. Kevin Slowey (2-1 3.79 ERA) will face Koji Uehara (1-0 4.66 ERA) followed by Glen Perkins (0-1 5.12 ERA) vs. Mark Hendrickson (1-4 8.57 ERA). Box Score Code:

Slowey Outduels Uehara, Twins Win 2-0 Baltimore (AP) - Offense has been awfully hard to come by the last few games the Twins have been in. Today was no different. Kevin Slowey and Koji Uehara locked themselves into a duel that last 6 innings of shutout ball before the Twins finally broke it up. Uehara had allowed just 3 hits heading into the 7th inning before giving up singles to Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel putting two on with 1 out. Alexi Casilla came through with a huge clutch double into the left centerfield gap scoring both runners and giving the Twins the only two runs scored in the ballgame. Kevin Slowey, for the third consecutive start for him was dominant. He would throw 95 pitches over 8 innings allowing just 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. He allowed just two runners in scoring position, both on doubles by Markaks and Wigginton. Obviously, both were stranded. The Twins elected to go to a fresh Joe Nathan to face the Orioles 1-2-3 batters in the 9th, as opposed to putting a tiring Slowey back out there, despite how sharp he was. Nathan did his job retiring the Orioles 1-2-3. The Twins improve to 18-10 with the victory, and are now surprisingly 8-3 on the road while just 10-7 at home. They gained a little bit of ground in the division moving up to 2 games ahead of the Sox and Indians who are both at 16-12, with the Tigers right behind at 15-13. Box Score Code:

Re: Lan's Minnesota Twins (The Show 09)

Twins Sweep O's Baltimore (AP) - The Twins completed a two game sweep of the Orioles today behind the bats of their two biggest run producers in Nomar Garciaparra and Justin Morneau. These two players are battling each other back and forth big time. It's starting to seem like every time one of them picks up an RBI the other one's right there matching it. This kind of competition is very good for a baseball team. The Twins jumped all over Mark Hendrickson early putting up a 2 spot in the first inning on a two run home run by Nomar Garciaparra, his 5th homer of the season and 19th and 20th RBI. The Twins would then load the bases with just 1 out but two pop ups would get Hendrickson out of a huge inning. Yunel Escobar singled in a run in the top of the 2nd to extend the lead to 3-0. Hendrickson would settle down for the 3rd and 4th innings, but would give up another 2 run homer in the 5th inning, this time to Justin Morneau, his 4th of the year. That would be all for Hendrickson as he departed trailing 5-0. Glen Perkins was touched for just one run in his outing and that was an RBI single by Luke Scott in the 6th inning. The win was his first of the season. He scattered 7 hits total, walking none and striking out 4. The Orioles would try to get back into it in the 9th off Philip Humber, but a 2 run home run from Zaun was all they would get, making the final 5-3. Guerrier and Breslow each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. The Twins now get to head back home for a 6 game homestand with 3 against Seattle who they took 3 out of 4 from back in April, followed by an off day and then a 3 game set against the Tigers. Big Day For Kubel Leads Twins to 6-2 Win Minneapolis (AP) - Jason Kubel has been kind of quiet lately batting out of the 6 spot in the Twins batting order. He went ahead and let the fans know that he's still there today as his big game gave the Twins the victory. Kubel would drive in 4 runs on the evening, raising his season average to .304 in the process of that. The Mariners got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly by Calix Crabbe going ahead 1-0. Blackburn would get the next two batters out without much trouble ending the inning. The Twins would answer right back in the bottom of the inning as Delmon Young led of the inning with a four pitch walk, followed by a 2 run bomb over the baggie in right field by Jason Kubel, just his second home run of the season to go ahead 2-1. They would extend the lead to 3-1 on what would basically be the game winning hit by Delmon Young in the fourth inning singling in Morneau, who led the inning off with a double. Nick Blackburn worked himself into a spot of trouble in the 7th inning allowing one run to score on two hits and a hit batsman but managed to work himself out of a 1st and 3rd situation with only 1 out. He struck out Adrian Beltre with a 2-2 cutter, and got Branyan to roll one over to second base to end the inning and the trouble. The Twins would score 3 more in the bottom of the 8th, compliments of an error by Yuniesky Betancourt keeping the inning alive long enough for Kubel to drive in two. Mike Timlin closed the ballgame out with the 4 run lead in the 9th, striking out 2. The Twins are now 4-1 on the season against the Mariners, and 20-10 overall on the season. Box Score Code:

Young, Dumb, and Full of..****ns, Delmon 3 R HR Propels Twins Minneapolis (AP)- Another strong pitching performance by the Twins pitching staff and a 7th inning 3 run bomb by Delmon Young gave the red hot Twins another victory today, extending their season-high winning streak to 5 games. Young's home run was just his second of the season while his 3 RBI brought him to within 2 RBI of the team leader Justin Morneau at 21. Baker went 7 strong allowing just 2 runs to score on 8 hits and a walk. He improved to 3 and 3 with the victory. Felix Hernandez struggled for the Mariners allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and 3 runs, 2 earned over just 5 innings while striking out 3. David Aardsma gave up the aforementioned 3 run homer to Delmon Young in the 8th inning. Griffey homered, and Jose Lopez registered 3 hits in the loss. Box Score Code:
