Players stop/slow down when catching

So I just got the game, and I am not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a glitch. So if I throw a pass, for instance a slant. When my player catches the ball, they almost stop. It's frustrating cause they get caught when they would have room to run etc.

I haven't played in a few years, so I may be doing something wrong. Do players not continue in motion when running a route and catching?

This is known (here) as the "stuck in mud glitch." It never happens on normal speed. It always happens on all speeds other than normal.

If you play on normal speed you won't have this glitch.

I have to disagree....

The animations for continuing to run after a catch or turn up field are atrociously slow. There's always a sluggishness to the movements. But not when the CPU controls it!
