"In the zone"?

What determines when a guy is in the zone? I have seen many instances of an impact running back getting shut down, or an impact wide receiver not being thrown to, or my own impact defensive tackle not making any plays, but then out of the blue Nessler announces that they are "in the zone and ready to make a big play."

WTF?

I think it has a lot to do with the situation too. If it's a key moment in the game, or in a drive, they're looking to make a clutch play. Doesn't mean they will, just that they're your go to guy for that moment.

Honestly, I think it's random. I've seen way to many guys get "in the zone" for no reason at all.

I agree. I think it happens at random. Sometimes though the right guy gets "in the zone" at the right time. I play with Alabama and I see Crowley always get in the zone when I am running a run play. Most of the time he throws an int when I audible out, so I just say screw it.

Re: "In the zone"?

From my experience it has been situation and performance that gets players "in the zone". I had a QB in the zone for three plays in a row because he completed 7 straight passes before that.

Or when I was down by 6 points with 20 seconds left and had 60 yards for a TD my RB was in the zone on 3rd down.

I'm pretty sure it is situation and performance.
