I never had a drop problem on 06

The deep ball has been overly effective in EA football games since day one. I highly doubt they will ever address it.

I thought it was still an issue.
Even if it wasn't, you shouldn't have to disable HFA to solve it.

It's almost impossible to defend the deep ball against the CPU. Every intended receiver is Randy Moss and WILL make the catch, no matter when you time your jump.

In my experience on the Xbox, the 06 version did have a drop issue - wide open high rated guys showing the stone hands. I tried turning HFA off, but that didn't work either. IMO, it felt like it the drop was predetermined, because they went to the cutscene where the receiver's shaking his head and the booth guys comment on it.

Quick question which may be neither here nor there ...

But is it in EA's best interest to make deep balls more realistic and tougher to complete?

While in reality it should be harder to complete a deep ball into tight double coverage than to a guy who's beat his only defender by 5 yards, does the average NCAA gamer play the game closely enough to the point that making this more difficult actually enhances his experience?

I'd think NCAA would have a better shot with the hardcore crowd than Madden, but I'm not sure by how much.

Nah, it was damn near perfect last year. They just need to work on the short-passing game. It was perrrrrrrfect in 2004.

Re: Any info. re whether the deep ball and drop issues...

Xbox most definitely still has a "drop" issue--actually, it's a no-try issue. The "catch attempt" animation doesn't play much of the time when it should, and the ball bounces off the receiver's side. This happens everywhere, but it's most noticeable when throwing to your backs. And even so, there are still too many dropped balls--ones that the "catch" animation plays and the receiver doesn't come away with it when he's wiiiide open. I've heard this is not a problem in the PS2 version though, which doesn't make sense. Turning off HFA does absolutely nothing. If anything, it makes it worse, since this still happens to the home team frequently with HFA ON.

On the bright side, it encourages user-catching.

The problem with the deep ball is that the computer can't defend it. If you yourself do the "swat ball" animation, instead of going for the pick, it works most of the time.
