Re: Poll: Momemtum Meter - Good or Bad

Momentum in a game is a solid idea.

Displaying it in bars that are prominently displayed on the tv screen is plain stupid. Momentum is not something that is easily quantified, therefor it should not be shown in such a way. The player can feel momentum shifts in the game, but its dumb to check the gauge like one does their rear view mirror.

The problem is that momentum is a faulty concept even in real life. It's always applied after the fact. You can say a team that's on the comeback trail has the momentum. So they line up for a 3rd down and if they make it, then you say it's because of the momentum they had. But if they get shut down, you say they lost the momentum to the other team. So what the hell good is the concept? Sure, it's useful for announcers and yes, there are times when you can "feel" the momentum, but if it gets shut down then did you really even have it?

I don't like i wish there was a option to turn it off. It feels to gimmicky.

Definately some truth in that. Gary Danielson doesn't believe in momentum and thinks its completely overstated by the media and everyone else.

Re: Poll: Momemtum Meter - Good or Bad

I like the idea of momentum being a factor in a game. The issue I have with it is that momentum is really not tangible, so a meter makes it sorta arcadish.
I also hate when I see a team score a TD, the other team tie it but the team with the original lead still has a click or two - that doesn't make sense. If the want a meter I think the click version is too definitive, I think it should be more like a rocking 'see-saw' type meter, tetering up and down for each play and such. But I really prefer no on-screen meter.

I don't like it because like the orignal poster said..........It feels like the game is pre-determined almost. I can't stand it.
