I'm 31 with two kids (4-6) and I've been a gamer since I can remember. Needless to say, the time with my family is invaluable. So, awhile back, I decided to sacrifice a bit of realism in order to accommodate the hobby in my life, not vice versa. Here's a quick round down of what I've done.

On baseball games...
1. I play 3 innings total!
2. Quick play if possible and turn off any broadcast gibberish (replays or cut-scenes).
3. 2-2 counts if the option is available.
4. Auto fielding

On basketball, hockey and football games...
1. 2min quarters.
2. No manual substitutions or plays.
3. Turn off any broadcast presentations.

Pros: Quick games, you tend to focus on every play, the AI "rubberband" seems to be limited in some games, increases your chances to get through a season.

Cons: Not all players on the roster are used, the stats are not realistic, the window for making mistakes or generating suspense is very small.
