That's not true. The BCS contract SPECIFICALLY includes the top six conferences AND Notre Dame.

As quoted from the 2005 BCS media guide:

Quote:
Prior to the 1998 football regular season, the FedEx
Orange, Nokia Sugar, Rose and Tostitos Fiesta Bowls joined
with the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, Pacific-10 and
Southeastern Conferences and the University of Notre Dame
to create the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).

That is something I obviously did not know. Thanks for that tidbit of info. I guess that would explain why Notre Dame went to the Fiesta Bowl last year despite being only the 3rd ranked at large team in the BCS (Oregon and Ohio State were both ahend of them).

Good choices. Another I will use, is UTEP. Not a major player yet, but I like team and plus, you are in Texas so you can get some talent to build yourself up

The BCS Conferences are the Big 10, ACC, Big 12, ACC, Pac-10 and the SEC. Notre Dame is in none of those conferences. Therefore Notre Dame would technically be the best non-BCS conference team, but of course you were asking for a team other than Notre Dame I'm sure. In that case, I'd probably say Boise State.
Not sure if this has been covered, but the question was best team from a Non-BCS CONFERENCE. Notre Dame is an independent (ie. not in any conference), thus not eligible for this discussion.

Edit: Just saw that goUtes nailed the independent point a few post earlier.

1. They are automatically given what would normally be a spot for a Big East (which is a BCS conference, albeit a terrible one) in certain bowl games if the bowl organizers feel so inclined to extend an inviation.

2. There is a national TV network (NBC) that exclusively carried ND games and no others....do you see teams from a non-BCS conference getting that type of treatment?

3. Most (if not all, forgive my lack of research) of their remaining athletic programs are all members of the Big (L)East Conference.

P.S. maybe this topic should be moved to the College Football discussion area.
Someone please explain to me how this would qualify Notre Dame as being "ignorant". They are capitalizing off of their school history and their football program's successes to take advantage of the media market's offers of a huge television contracts. They don't have to share any of the revenue generated by their football program with the rest of a conference as with other schools. If anything this is the exact opposite of ignorance. It's simply good business.
