Re: Defensive Scheme

My D playbook is Multiple D. I primarily Run 4-3 Stack and 4-3 Over. I only come out of my base against 4-Wr sets (Nickel) and 5-Wr Sets (Dime). I find my LBs get more tackles now that I've stopped matching CBs to WRs.

I look at my opponent's Offensive strategy before the game to see their run/pass ratio and if they're an aggressive team or not. That REALLY helps you know how to call your defense once the game starts.

Great minds think alike, frat. I run 4-3 stack and over too. My linebackers are all ballhawks so its nice. Although one of them tends to get beat in man coverage against TEs, but he's great in the zone. I run a 3-3-5 against most 4 man sets though. Mainly because I'm shorthanded on DB's. I had to convert to of my WR's to DB's this year because of my horrible recruiting year...

Re: Defensive Scheme

I use Virginia, and thus I use the 3-4. We are always stacked with good linebackers, and I can recruit them pretty well too. I blitz my freak of an ROLB a lot (93 SPEED). Cover 2 man in deep throwing situations, and really just a lot of mixing it up.

Re: Defensive Scheme

i use the 4-2-5 playbook and put alot of pressure on QB with blitz.

i can stop the run pretty good with this formation, unless they go big and go up the gut alot. havent had that problem with the teams i face using Texas Tech. i think OU is the only i had trouble with stoping the run.

i will even use the 4-2-5 bear instead of goaline D. works good for me.
if i feel i need more size, will go 5-2 or 4-4.
i dont really like using goaline, not enough speed on the field for me.

also works good for my recruiting, in previous NCAA games i could never good big time LB but get overloaded with good DBs

Re: Defensive Scheme

I'd love to be able to incorporate more man coverage into my defense but I think the current gen (Xbox) version has a serious problem with man coverage. It's evidenced by the way the cpu QB performs vs. man and how my QB performs vs. man. Ah well, you roll with what the game gives you and you have fun right? I loved the game to begin with but I'm loving it sooooo much more with the "NCAA 2007" sliders that I put in the slider forum. This has been the best coach mode experience I've had since converting with NCAA 05.

Re: Defensive Scheme

One thing to check on the 360 is the ratings for your DB's . There are ratings now for zone and man coverage. I play with ND and it's DBs are much better in a zone than man-up. I had to break myself from the Man-Cover 2 that I use often for Madden and get used to sitting in a zone.
I usually use the 4-3 or 4-4 in running situations, Nickle against 3 WR, Dme against 4 WR and Quarter against 5. This usually gives you the best matchups. I will switch it sometimes in obvious passing downs (3 & 15 or while in the end of the game protecting a lead) to Dime against 3 WR and Quarter against 4.
I tend not to blitz too often but I will Zone blitz on occasion to mix things up. This can confuse a lesser QB who sees the blitz from one side and goes to a checkdown receiver on the other. Sometimes they don't see the DE that has dropped into coverage. Obviously you only do this with an athletic DE.

Re: Defensive Scheme

One other thing I do is match the deep coverage with the number of WRs. I stay in my base for up to 3 WRs. If they go 4-Wide I'll go with Nickel and if they go empty with 5-wide, I'll go with Dime. Matching the deep coverage with the number of WRs has been pretty good to me. I just wish the current gen man coverage was better.

Re: Defensive Scheme

My base D is the 4-3 over cover 3... plus i mix it up with some blittzes and i may blitz the LB covering the flats every once in a while. I confuse a bunch of QB's...
