I think your style of play makes a big difference. If you are constantly one of the top rushing teams in the country, running backs and OL will love you. WRs tend to stay away. That's part of the coaching style pitch you can make. It can be a good pitch if they fit into what you do.

They also look at your depth chart. One year in '06, I was playing on Heisman so I found it good to have the #1 recruiting class every year. I was far and away the best class for 2 or 3 years yet the next year, nobody wanted to come to my team. So much good young talent that was redshirted was sitting on my squad that I ended up #23. I thought I was on probation but I wasn't. Recruits just thought they wouldn't play and they were right.
