Re: *OFFICIAL* NCAA 09 Wishlist (360/PS3)
Great suggestions, radoslaw, I really like the 68/98 potential idea, team unity, and taking recruiting weeks from January and moving them to the summer.
If FCS teams do make it into the next installment, I want to be able to play a season mode with an FCS team (not the replace a team in FBS like last year).
It would even be a nice touch if your FCS team could climb up to FBS a la Western Kentucky.
I would also like to see fictional offensive and defensive coordinators (based on real-life counterparts, Jimbo Fisher could be "Jeff Farmer" or something) that can affect the team's performance, consistency, and awareness. Old coaches can retire and be replaced by these coordinators or a coach from another school.
For the people that say recruiting is too tedious, there could a recruiting priority system the user can set at the beginning of the season. The user could set the priority for each position, maybe a percentage for each position (i.e. 12% for OTs, 25% for CBs). If the user has a JR, two SOs, and two FR QBs, they can set the QB position to 0% so the AI won't fetch any new QBs. Now, the people who think recruiting is tedious would set that chart one time per season and be done with recruiting, or the CPU could even set it up for them.
Definitely keep the current recruiting system of this year. I would add "coaching style" to the mix of pitches. Miami's pitch for TEs would probably be "Elite" whereas for FSU, it would be "Sub Par".
I do think the attributes need to match up a little more with the players' sizes. I see a few too many 240 lb HBs with 95 speed and 268 lb DTs with 95 strength. PS2 did this fairly well IMO. I'd like to see more scat back types a la Darren Sproles and Damien Anderson.
A few more generated fast TEs could not hurt. I would like to see the occasional Vernon Davis, Kellen Winslow Jr. type players.
A few too many QBs leave early for my taste. I know that Vince Young, Michael Vick, and Alex Smith left early and got drafted very high. The problem is, in this game, the guys leaving early are more like Brandon Kirsch. The game may have a problem with system QBs (Texas Tech and Hawaii) putting up lights out stats and leaving early, but Kliff Kingsbury, Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan did not leave early in real life.
Injury ratings need to decrease for players who get hurt for extended periods of time.
A few more players need to transfer to big schools. Emmanuel Moody and Brandon Warren did and Jamere Holland was trying to. I have seen an O-Lineman transfer to USC and players transfer to Bama and GT, so I see there has been a little improvement from PS2 days.
To expand radoslaw's suggestions on kickers/punters such as Sam Swank, I think there should be a couple of those types generated. It should probably only be the 4* and 5* kickers, though. Maybe a 3*, but no lower than that.
The return ratings should reflect properly in the depth charts. This way, we don't always have top two skill players returning kicks, which inflates stats and increases risk for injury. If I put a speed guy with a low return rating in the game, his tendency for dropping the catch and/or fumbling the return should shoot up.
Not that big a deal, but service academies shouldn't be redshirting players............ I don't think they do that.
