Recurring Problem...

I'm still learning, but I keep running into the same situation. I can run the ball well between the tackles. But by the second quarter the defense has got 8 and 9 guys in the box and I lose yards on runs. When I try to play action one of three things happens.

1. I get sacked (the most frequent option)
2. I throw it deep and the DB or LB or S easily swats it away no matter who they are covering 1-on-1
3. I throw a pick (the second most common option)

I've never connected on a deep ball against a non-IAA opponent. How do I throw deep? I'm losing a ton of games b/c I have no deep passing game (even when I drop it down to VARSITY!). Any suggestions would be welcome.

yeh. the deep pass is only there like once or twice a game.
twice if your lucky.
try using pump fakes, sometimes it gets the db to bite for a second, or even fall.

I use SMU and there are certain teams that do that to me also. When they start doing that I go to the pistol formation to spread them out, then mix in runs and passes from the same formation. No play-action because you will get sacked. Mix up your runs and passes.

Also you can actually set up plays. For example, if you've been using a run to the left in a particular formation, the defense will start to jump that play. Later call a toss to the right side using the same formation and the defense will jump the run to the left, giving you a big gain with the toss play to the right.
