False Start on the Center?

Why in the world does the center jump up when he false starts? Wouldnt he flinch his wrist or something? Centers dont jump up until they snap the ball.

Also seeing as how the center is the man that actually controls when the play begins, I'd think it'd be pretty rare for him to false start at all. But in the game, he's the main one for me that gets caught with this penalty.

I play Center in HS and though I'm sure you're aware of this, there's two ways a C can get a "false start" penalty. If he flinches his wrist it's illegal procedure, snap simulation. If he puts the ball up to snap it and doesn't let go it's a false snap. If he puts the ball up to snap it and lets go it's a fumble.

Re: False Start on the Center?

yeah that gets to me too a college level center should hardly ever get a false
start call. but it must have something to do with the confidence level it seems to happen more
when a DT is a good player.

Re: False Start on the Center?

I saw it happen in an NFL game a few weeks back. I believe the C screwed up the snap count, and sorta fake snapped accidently before finally snapping, causing a defensive lineman to jump.

Yeah but in the game the ball doesn't move.

Yea I've seen this too, many times in the game. APF 2k8 does it right where the CPU snaps it early. Even in APF if the Center snaps it early, you can still run the play if you call for the snap with the QB right on time.
