Help please! Trying to get this patch, but before I do I need the system update. Everytime I try this I get the same message saying an error occured while connecting to the server. Am I screwed for now or is there anything I can do?

Does your internet still work? Can you surf and check your e-mail still? If you can, then something is wrong with the connection to your PS3. If that's the case, maybe there is something wrong with your wireless router if that's what you are using. I'm no expert at this but if you can isolate your problem, someone more knowledgable can help you.
