i think it has to do with actual weather durinf franchise games.

I'm fairly certain that it's for the online defensive playcalling issue. Someone said it would happen occasionally. For me, it would either happen four or five times a game or, as it had done for the two or three games prior to the patch, 75-80% of all defensive plays. Heck of a way to lose, when your best shot to stop a crucial drive is 4-3 man...nothing but 4-3 man.
