Why is the preseason the only time u can redshirt? It should be like real life where at the end of the season, if ur QB only played minimally then u can redshirt him......

I think until they tweak the logic and add medical redshirts and gray shirts it will only be preseason stuff

Really? I thought that as soon as you take a snap in a season you cannot redshirt that season or if you were already declared as a redshirt you lose it.

What are the exact rules pertaining to redshirts?

This is from the NCAA manual (rule book).

A player may be granted a redshirt if he or she has participated in less than 10% of the season taking place in an academic year.

Either way, it would be nice to not have to redshirt a guy in August in case someone gets hurt or sucks during the year. I've had it happen where my 2 safeties get hurt and I'm stuck with a WR stargetting burned for half the season while my redshirted 3-star is chillin on the sidelines learning his playbook.

You sure? I thought you could sub in a guy you redshirted during the season at anytime, you just lose that redshirt?

You can redshirt a guy in the pre-season, but you CAN sub him in. It asks you if you want to remove the red-shirt, so it is possible

I was under the impression that you could essentially un-redshirt a player just by popping him into the depth chart during the season.
