Why can't NCAA do roster updates?

The common answer is that it would show they are recreating real-life college players, which isn't legal. This doesn't make any sense, since it's already 100% clear that they're recreating real-life players to begin with. They wouldn't add names obviously, but they could change ratings and update position changes.

As a Nebraska fan, its frustrating to know Cody Glenn, now one of our top two or three defensive players, is stuck at backup running back in EA's roster. I know I could change this offline, but I only play online so that wouldn't help me.

I think change is coming, I saw something about fantasy football with real college players names instead of just the number....hmmmm maybe that is the beginning so one way or another I think the consumer is going to get screwed. One day we might not have the opportunity to edit rosters.

The main reason is if they put the real names in they have to be paid royalties for selling their likeness which is against NCAA rules for players to get money before they graduate. Which is why we will probably never see the players names and it will be numbers.

The real reason they don't do roster updates is with so many teams it would take too much time and money. Of ocurse the reason they give is the players are fictional which, as you say, laughable.
