Yes, significantly so. Another upside is that by loading off the hd, the disc drive runs much quieter.

Do you have to have the disc in the drive to make it work?

But beware that sometimes the disk error may prevent you from installing to the hard drive if it is bad enough. I bought a used game, had a few problems loading an exhibition, finally the third time I played all the way through a game. Then I tried installing to the HD, and I got an error around the same point every time. I returned the game for another used copy, and now it works fine. I still installed it to the HD, just to avoid any future problems, hopefully.

How much HD space does it take up? Since I am only working with 8.9 left.
