This is the great thing about rankings. You can rank based on WHATEVER YOU WANT. Who are you to tell people what they should be voting on? You vote the 25 best teams. Everyone has a different definition for what 'best' is. Some base their pre-season on prediction, some base it on talent, some base it on last year, some base it on the quality of the program and reputation. You can vote however you want. Once the season starts, we all have our definition of what makes teams 'the best'. You can't tell anyone their rankings are bad because we can vote on whatever criteria we want.

I rate it based on the ratio of white to black athletes they have on the field. It's my interpretation of 'best'.

No, I don't but the point is that there is wrong ways of identifying the "best" team in a preseason ranking and basing it solely on SoS is definitely one of incorrect methods. If someone said that ULM is the #1 team in the country, they'd be just as incorrect as saying 2+2 = 12. Sure, it's an opinion, but some opinions are just wrong.

There is pretty much three ways of doing pre-season rankings:
* Where you think they'll end up.
* The talent you anticipate they will put on the field.
* The "loss" method which is a guess at loss potential
