You don't have to but if you used any helmet color but white, then you'd have a white box with the logo in it. The transparent background will allow you to use any helmet color and have the logo fit with it. Also, it would do the same thing for the field if you put that logo out there.

Re: Official CAS Logo Thread

GIMP has a good online help site: http://docs.gimp.org/en/
For transparency specifically: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-using-w...nsparency.html
Also, the first time I searched on this I came up on this blog post which has easy step-by-step instructions for this: http://geekswithblogs.net/TimH/archi.../20/72797.aspx

I primarily use photoshop but I downloaded Gimp to see what it was like and did those ECU ones up top with it. It is a bit confusing but I figured out a way to do it. Here's how to do that:

1. Import the image that you want to edit.
2. Create a new layer in that panel to the right.
3. Use the paint bucket tool(5th row, 1st tool) and paint that new layer white(just one click).
4. Move the white layer below the image layer.
5. Right click your main image and select "Merge Down".
6. Use the "Fuzzy Select Tool"(1st row, 4th tool) and click on the white area of the image to select all of the white.
7. Go into the Edit tab and select "Clear"

Then the background will become transparent. Make sure to get all of the white background as there may be some areas that don't get selected initially.
