They will discuss this for about five years, then set a plan of action..stall..then make a decision which will probably be flawed.

1 - Oklahoma (Big XII Champs)

8 - Penn State (Big Ten Champs)
9 - Boise State (WAC Champs)
5 - USC (Pac10 Champs)
12 - Cincinnati (Big East Champs)
4 - Texas (At-Large)
13 - Virginia Tech (ACC Champs)
3 - Alabama (At-Large)
14 - East Carolina (C-USA Champs)
6 - Utah (Mountain West Champs)
11 - TCU (At-Large)
7 - Texas Tech (At-Large)
10 - Ohio State (At-Large)
2 - Florida (SEC Champs)
15 - Buffalo (MAC Champs)
This would have been far more fun to watch than, say, Colorado St. vs Fresno St. bowl games, especially if one of the mid-majors won a few rounds.

It'll be all fine and good until a 7-5 team manages to get enough luck to win their conference championship and then winds up winning the whole thing.

Don't think it can happen?

A 7-4 FSU team upset VT in the conference championship and then forced overtime on a 10-1 Penn State team who was on the losing end of a last second play that otherwise would have likely meant they would have made the 2005 championship game.

I'm not interested in seeing a team barely over .500 win the championship unlike in other sports

Couldn't agree more... just because a team wins a conference doesn't mean they deserve a shot at the National Title.

There would be a lot less problems if these conferences didn't get so big that they need Title Games because then teams get left out like Texas.... if every conference just kept it to 10 (like the Pac10) they could have a true champion based on every team playing the entire conference (like the Pac10).

The fact that Texas missed out on playing for their conference title because of a last second miracle by Crabtree and the BCS rankings is a joke!

but an 11-1 team that beat a team in the title game getting hosed is no problem? or an undefeated team not getting a shot at the title just b/c 2 other undefeated teams began the season ranked higher than them. i'd rather risk a 7-5 team getting a shot at the title than risk a 12-0 team not getting a shot.

That FSU situation is a prime example of the fact that conference championship games fly in the face of the notion that the regular season is more important in College football than in any other sport and your season is on the line in every game. That's why the PAC-10, Big East, Mountain West, WAC and Sun Belt have the best way of determining their champion, with a plain old round robin.

Not that I have a horse in that whole Texas-Texas Tech-Oklahoma situation of last year but I'm always amazed at how people minimize Texas' loss to Texas Tech as "only because of a last second miracle" when in reality Tech led that game for about 54 minutes while Texas held the lead for a whopping 1 minute and 28 seconds.

The same phenomenon occurs when people discuss the Boise State win over OU. In that case people reduce Boise's win to a bunch of trick plays when they actually held the lead for most of the game by playing OU straight up.
