Possession WR will they matter?

6'3 220 B+ spd A- rte

I know you've seen these players.
They cant get seperation from much faster corners and run behind linebackers in zone coverage.

i feel like rte running doesnt even matter that much because on an in route an A- route runner should know to run in front of the coverage.

WILL EA correct this and make these guy matter or will these guys continue to become TE's in 2010?

i surely hope so. Jeff Samarzja (or however you spell it) was one of the greatest possession receivers I have seen over the past few years. He wasnt a burner at all but if the ball was thrown his way you could bet money that he was gonna catch it even if he was gonna get nailed in the process

Re: Possession WR will they matter?

Funny you mention that cuz the best reciever prospect in college football right now (Julio Jones) is a possesion reciever. Not gonna run past a ton of people but ala Larry Fitzgerald doesn't need to get a ton of separtion. He's so big and strong he can shield defenders from the ball or out jump them on deep routes. Aldarious Johnson from Miami is another one. I've always preferred these recievers and I felt NCAA 09 did a decent job allowing me to utilize them. Hopefully they keep it up...

You can add all the other descriptions in this as well....Power back, speed, balanced, etc. I haven't realized to much of a difference between any of the player types

The only player type that matters is A+ Speed. The rest is detail.

yep! And I don't think that has been fixed for 2010 because OMT posted info from his dynasty and sorted by speed and there was one guy rated 99 spd. While everyone celebrated that I sat back like well, whoever gets the 99 spd guy no matter the other ratings has the best player in the game.

+1
93+ speed backs win awards
92 and below can barely get back to the line of scrimmage on Heisman

Re: Possession WR will they matter?

You guys couldn't have said it any better. One of my biggest hopes is that EA makes other attributes besides speed matter in 2010.

I've been reaching out in several forums and boards trying to find out if there is/will be a change this year or see if there's been any info released on the way a players stats come into play for 2010. To this point I've got nothing. It seems like the last few versions -- especially overblown in '09 -- that the only stat the seemed to matter was speed.
