With the ability of the user to edit rosters and Madden coming out in August i don't think they can release it much later.

The down side to the rosters is that we're stuck with the shipped rosters for Online 1v1 games, but OD and Dynasty as well as any other modes are able to be adjusted by the consumer as the real season progresses and players progress, quit, etc...

In regards to the ship date, EA doesn't want to compete with itself so they have to have the two games ship far enough apart so as not to do that. Also, with Madden being the Franchise and the latter shipping it needs to be better or at least have features different than that of NCAA in order for folks to buy it. If NCAA was better then they'd lose a ton of money on Madden.

You aren't looking at the game as a commodity. By releasing it prior to the real college football season they get $ from die hard gamers at that time. Then a month and a half later the real games start and "casual" NCAA gamers become motivated to pick up the video game after watching a few real games on TV.

It makes perfect sense from a marketing standpoint.
