Is NCAA always a step behind Madden

For the longest time going back to last gen, It seems that the NCAA games have always felt like a college tweaked version of the previous madden release. Am I imagining things or is this correct?
I know Madden has more developers and much larger sales, plus comes out later in the year so this would make financial sense but didn't know if that's how they always built the next NCAA.

Re: Is NCAA always a step behing Madden

As far as I know, a lot of the new gameplay features are instilled into both games (stuff like one-handed catches, etc).

I don't feel the same way you do though. I've always felt like NCAA has stood on its own as far as being a different game and I think no year was more true of that than this year's version in '09.

How can they take Madden '09 and tweak it to make it NCAA '10 when NCAA '09 was a far more polished game?

Re: Is NCAA always a step behing Madden

without getting into depth too much, simple answer is yes. Madden makes more money, has more people devotted to making it so its priority #1. I remember Ian saying on the Madden boards that they have the ability to show off a lot more gameplay stuff and can talk about a lot more stuff than the NCAA people have been allowed to. Madden is priority #1, NCAA is #2.

But they dont want NCAA to ever feel like its just Madden with college teams. Thats why they try to make each game feel like its own because college football is not the same as NFL.

Funny that you mentioned one handed catches. I was playing '04 last night and my TE made a one handed TD grab. It was sweet. Those were the days

I remember reading reviews of some of the last gen NCAA games and they would talk about how big brother Madden needed to step up their game because NCAA had passed them in quality.
