I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to say this. EA and EA Sports are little more than stickers placed on the box and disc art. There are different people in different parts of the world with different sets of ideas that don't communicate (I would guess) making these games; then, they merely receive the EA/EA Sports brand.

One thing that was nice about NHL 09 was the support. EA released 2 patches for that game that fixed the ease at which cheese goals were socred and added to the number of penalties that were called. It was nice. Usually the EA football games only get one patch and don't fix all the problems. Say what you want but that is steller IMHO.

Your argument makes some sense but it doesn't explain why FIFA has gotten so much better recently. FIFA sells more than Madden so it certainly wouldn't fit as a low demand product.

Played Fifa today to. It's simply astonishing how good EA can be at times, yet so poor at other times.

Two main reasons:

1) EA Canada (the team behind FIFA and NHL) is the company's best in-house developer, especially compared to EA Tiburon, who has been extremely complacent since getting the football exclusivity deals.

2) The NHL and FIFA franchises both have yearly competition from other developers.

Football is the most complex sport right now. Its alot more difficult to simulate football then any other sport. So its easier to make greater leaps in hockey and in soccer.
