In general, the product you get at release is the product you'll most certainly get. I have yet to see a "huge" patch because by nature the developers have to move on to the next rendition of the game.

Patches will generall fix unforseen bugs and glitches.

Ea is pretty vigilant with these.

Its more for game stability than any actual content.
