It's too bad NCAA has to show up one year late to the party with all of these "innovations". I owned Madden 2009 for several months, and while I didn't play the game THAT much, I played it enough to where I should've noticed this "tackle break" engine. People were saying you could use the R stick or spin button or whatever to get out of tackles, but I still never felt like I was in control.

And even if it did work, the new Madden team thought so much of it that they completely gutted the Madden 2009 tackle system to create Pro-Tak, which, to me, seems like it is more of a 2k football approach to tackles (which I applaud).

I've always thought that the NCAA game was better suited for EA's arcade style of play, and there's more longevity in a college franchise mode than in Madden's bare bones franchises. Which is why it's too bad that NCAA never seems to be first to try something unique that could set it apart from Madden, rather than simply adding last year's Madden features to their game.

Nothing new?

Let's see... we have all these strategy elements: http://insideblog.easports.com/archi...-strategy.aspx

Dynasty got Competitive Recruiting and all of this stuff: http://insideblog.easports.com/archi...y-details.aspx

Then I'm going to copy from one of my old posts but all the Game-play stuff*... (and Road to Glory info will drop soon) but nothing new sounds a little off to me...

Heck all of that this stuff is just off the top of my head (well I cheated a little and used some old blogs/posts I could remember), I may have forgot things we already talked about.

*From Game-play round-up:

Pass Blocking
  • Branch Windows
  • Steering and Manipulation
Adaptive AI
  • CPU will adapt to your play calling
Catch Steering
  • Catches near the sideline will try and turn you up field
WR/Defensive Back Interactions
  • Route Running and Man Coverage
  • WR/DB Jostling
  • Press / Release
Layered Blending
  • Throwing when being hit
Inaccurate Passing
  • Passes miss in a more logical direction (not random)
Procedural Awareness
  • Head Tracking
Pursuit Angles
  • Sideline Pursuit
Then there is stuff that has not been blogged about, only talked about on some forum posts...

CPU Passing improved
  • They will throw down field more often
Defensive Line will get up and tip passes
  • And I mean tipped, not just knocked down
Break out of tackles
  • From Madden 09 you can try and break out of tackles after they start
Intercepting Pitches
  • You can actually catch a pitch if you get in-between the QB and the pitch man (instead of it just bouncing off you and hitting the ground)
Non-Catch Catches
  • Players will go for a catch even when they will not catch the ball
Slips on Routes
  • In bad weather players have a chance to slip when running routes
Tons of new animations (examples below):
  • Tackles
  • Over the Shoulder Catches
  • Motion Hand-offs
  • Shotgun Hand-offs

I for one, feel ANY improvements are welcome. Ever since BILL WALSH college football, i was hooked. NCAA 09 IMHO was the worst of the bunch (no offense) but there was a great game hidden in there. I feel the improvements/additions will make for a MUCH better game....Setbacks aside (roster issue). I just wish SEASON SHOWDOWN sponsored by COKE ZERO was not in (waste of space if you ask me, but who knows).

LOL, Russ owned those haters. There are improvements, and I find it funny that people bash it who haven't even played it.

With that being said, I really think PP has a point. I remember for years NCAA owned Madden in terms of atmosphere, gameplay, and sheer excitement, but it just seems like the Madden developers have been out working the NCAA guys.

I can't believe the amount of issues/bugs that have been in the game the past few years that EA have not really fixed for us. You would think as a valued customer they would go out of their way to make the game function how it is intended (fix rosters, etc.)

Why would you post this whole long list when the OP was asking only whether there are any new tackles in the game?

I just watched the 9 minute Tennessee-Auburn video that Steve posted today. For my money, no...it sure doesn't look like the tackling in 10 is any different than 09. Personally, I hate the one tackle where 3 guys all get to the ballcarrier at the same time, and end up bouncing off in different directions and landing on their backs. It really looks stupid, IMHO, and I can't believe it's still in the 4th or 5th version of NCAA on these next gen systems.

If there ARE any new tackles in that 9 minute long video, my eyes aren't seeing 'em.
