Quick Q about TB when buying used

I've heard that you can only use TB with a new copy? I don't think that's true but I wanted to check.

What I mean is you buy the game say at Target, the game has a code in it, you use that code on TB and then that code can only be used for one account. So if I got it off ebay, the code would already have been used.

Or is it not a code system? I'm just kinda confused how the teams get from the TB site to your console. Kinda an amateur question for how much I read these boards.

I haven't heard anything regarding a code for TB.

If you buy the game new you get a code for 12 slots for CAS from Teambuilder. If you preorder from Gamestop/EB you get a code for an extra 13 slots on top of the 12 for a total of 25. If you rent the game you don't get a code, but you have the ability to purchase slots from DLC.
