Re: My Last Game - Where is the Pride
Over the past 2 years, I have also found that I'm not as excited about NCAA as I used to be. Maybe it's just that I'm getting older (now 29), maybe the game is just becoming stale or maybe the game is just not as good as it was on the PS2. NCAA was the game that I looked forward to all year, ever since it was Bill Walsh's College Football. This was the first year that I didn't buy it first day.
I think my main problem is that the game, at least dynasty mode to me, has regressed since the PS2 games. It's not just that the PS3/360 versions haven't added anything new, it's that they have actually taken so much away from the older versions. The presentation has been discussed before and has it's own thread. But the gameplay also seems to have regressed, simple things like the running animations for the players seem almost worse than their PS2 counterparts. And the commentary, well, I think that's the one thing that hasn't changed at all over the years.
In the PS2 games, we had the magazine photos of your players after a big game. You'd think by now, this would have been improved upon where there are actually small write-ups about the game as well as a photo from the actual game; instead, this feature has been replaced with the same 3 generic team photos of a band or something. And I can't believe there are still no coordinators in the game, which is a HUGE aspect of college football. I'd also like halftime report shows, or in-game score tickers- what football games that are shown on TV now don't have the scoring ticker at the bottom during the whole game?
Finally, I can't believe they don't have a weekly wrap-up show (just like College Hoops) updating you on the results of the big games that week, key performances, and throw-in highlights from each conference's "game of the week" (even if they're just generic highlights, it's still something). Something more to make your dynasty feel "alive." They really had that feeling going in the right direction on the PS2 and then just dropped all of it.
If space is a problem, please EA get rid of Mascot Mashup and things like that. Just make Mascot Mashup it's own game and sell it separately for $10 if it's that important to you.
