NCAA 2004 recruiting???????????

Can anyone tell me about the recruiting deal this year? Ive been wondering why in 2003 they had 6'5" runningbacks and then they had 5'11" 330 pound linemen! Ive been wondering if they made this years recruiting more life like! Can anyone tell me?

Re: NCAA 2004 recruiting???????????

I hate seeing O-lineman below six feet when I'm recruiting. That definitely isn't realistic. As for the 6'5" RBs, I have no problem with it. I just call them beast as they are usually about 230+ pounds. It's also not that unrealistic because Auburn has this guy in real life named Brandon Jacobs(JUCO transfer) who is 6'4" 260 and runs a 4.35!!!

Re: NCAA 2004 recruiting???????????

Isn't Jacobs more like 6'4" 250 and runs a 4.5?

sub-6' OL aren't unheard of in real life, though they are generally listed at 6'1" on their team's roster. Adam Metts, a former Honorable mention All-ACC center for UNC, was listed at 6'1", but was no taller than 5'11". What DOES irritate me, though, is when you see 6' tall OTs. Those guys might play OG/C or DT, but there will never be a 6'0" tall OT.

The height was a little out of whack at times. I've seen a 6'5" CB (in reality he wouldn't probably have the lateral quicks and burst at that height to be an effective man to man CB) in the game, as well as several 6'4"/6'5" RBs. IMO, they ought to reduce the height of RBs across the board by 2 inches or so, as there were VERY few RBs in the 5'9" range, and I don't remember seeing any that were 5'8" or shorter. Last year, Fred Russell and Joe Igber were both highly productive backs at just 5'8", and Quinton Griffin checked in at about 5'6". I'd also like to see CB height reduced across the board, as there are a lot more 5'8"/5'9" CBs than would be generated, and in reality, very few CBs are actually 6' or taller. It has to do with body type and the skills necessary to play tight, man to man coverage. Tall guys generally don't have the hips and quicks to stay with receivers, which is what makes the few taller corners with that ability, like Woodson and Champ Bailey, such a golden commodity.

Re: NCAA 2004 recruiting???????????

I'm sick of seeing the midget tight ends and o-linmen too. In real life, you will almost never see a TE below 6'2", an OT below 6'2" or a G/C below 6'1". Also, you will very rarely see a HB taller than 6'3". There was nothing frustrating in NCAA 2004 than having the nation's #1 RT interested in your school, but he's 5'11" 323. EA hasn't said anything about it yet, but I'll be anxious to see whether they fixed it. I was just thinking about this, and it would probably be best if they followed these guidelines:

QB's: 5'11"-6'6"
HB's: 5'9"-6'3"
FB's: 5'9"-6'3"
WR's: 5'9"-6'6"
TE's: 6'2"-6'7"
OT's: 6'2"-6'8"
OG's: 6'1"-6'7"
C's: 6'1"-6'6"
DE's: 6'0"-6'7"
DT's: 6'0"-6'7"
OLB's: 5'11"-6'4"
MLB's: 5'11"-6'4"
CB's: 5'9"-6'2"
FS's: 5'10"-6'4"
SS's: 5'10"-6'4"
K's: 5'9"-6'2"
P's: 5'11"-6'4"

I agree, sizes need to be more consistant with real life. 6'5 240lb rb's with sub 4.4 speed are a rarity. So are 6'5 corners. They need to make the taller QB's more rare also as there are alot of college qb's that are too small to play in the pro's.

Re: NCAA 2004 recruiting???????????

I'd modify your list a little bit. If the position doesn't appear, I didn't disagree at all. Very rarely will you find a player at some of the high or low extremes, but it ought to be an option to find it in recruiting. Also, I think OL and DL weights (at least at DT) need to be greatly reduced as well, along with the weight of the shorter LBs.

QB's: 5'9"-6'7" (Flutie and Joe Hamilton weren't taller than 5'9", and Iowa's Nathan Chandler is listed at 6'7")
HB's: 5'6"-6'3" (VAST majority of backs will be 5'8" or taller, tho)
WR's: 5'7"-6'6" (might even go as short as 5'6"--lots more short WRs than you realize)
TE's: 6'2"-6'8"
OG's: 6'1"-6'8"
DT's: 5'11"-6'7"
OLB's: 5'9"-6'4"
MLB's: 5'9"-6'4"
CB's: 5'7"-6'2"
FS's: 5'8"-6'4"
SS's: 5'8"-6'4"
K's: 5'6"-6'5" (UNC's Dan Orner is a diminutive 5'7")
P's: 5'11"-6'4" (probably about the same range as PK. I don't know of any super-short punters, but that doesn't mean they don't exist)
