Re: Would you rather have an overpowered...
Obviously neither should be 'overpowered' so I answered the smart alecky way. Both are annoying. It's extremely annoying when the only stops you get on D are turnovers, but its also annoying when D is too easy against the CPU or you can't move the ball at all against bad defenses.
I don't remember the year, but it was on ps2, and I would always have the #1 rush defense. Part of this was due to the computer never running, but also becautse my D-line would dominate every O-line and would blow up every run in the backfield and get 5+ sacks a game.
It's also very annoying when no matter what you do, the CPU defense blows up your O-line (even when their D-line isn't very good). I hated having D-linemen from some IAA school blow up my offensive line full of All-Americans and 90+ players.
Both those issues should be fixed with the new blocking AI thankfully. But, still, the college game is a lot more 'offensively' biased. Lots of teams average 30+ points per game, and even really good defenses get shredded from time to time by elite players.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that they need to just get things right. A good defense should shut down a bad offense, a good offense should dominate a bad D. Nobody likes punt/turnover fests every single game and nobody likes to score every possession.
One thing that I think causes this is that 3rd and longs have always been way too easy to convert in these games. I think if defenses played like they knew the situation, there wouldn't be so much talk about this. As it is, a sack on 1st or 2nd down doesn't even really matter since a 3rd and 8+ is just as easy as a 3rd and short.
