Not that Oregon was going to beat Miami, but deserved to play them in 2001 for the NC...not Nebraska...Had Dennis Dixon stayed healthy couple of years ago who knows...
You have no idea how bad they were in the 70 and 80's..and Phil got involved in the early 90's....so it's only been the last 15-20 years, it takes time to make up for recruiting disadvantage (location/weather/lack of major airport), lack of history....needed an indoor practice facility, coach offices, weight room to be built, locker rooms, renovate the stadium to a larger capacity for revenue issues...it's a process.

They went winless a few times and a couple times they had 1-10 season with their only victory coming against the Beavers. Oregon didn't really hit their stride until the mid 90's, they were a bowl team at best in the early 90's. When Oregon went to the rose bowl with Danny O'Neal at QB at Penn State, that was the start of Oregon's emergence. Oregon is no Florida, Texas, Alabama, etc. but they are on the rise and could win an NC sooner rather than later.

Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

Oregon owes where their program is today to Rich Brooks. He's probably one of the best coaches all-time at building programs from scratch.

Rich Brooks isn't forgotten by any Ducks fan. He was a great coach. Although he failed with the Rams in the NFL. He was pretty good with your guy's program at UK too.

Re: Oregon Ducks getting new Turf

I think the Ducks should worry about actually winning a Rose Bowl before they starting talking about National Championships.... only 7 more seasons and it's been 100 years since a Rose Bowl win.

And with the climate of the Admin vs. AD in Eugene its only a matter of time before they rebel against the AD. That new athletes only learning center is not exactly helping... funny that Mastoli could have went there and got a laptop instead of jacking one from a Frat.

Back on topic, it is nice to see they are getting rid of the crown on the field, I remember in HS our rival team had a similar crown because their stadium was right next to a river and had horrid drainage.... was a definite advantage for QBs to have experience on the field.

Ya I'm hoping Kentucky's program takes off now like Oregon's did under Belotti. We're kind of similar to Oregon in that Kentucky only produces about 10 D1-A BCS caliber recruits a year. I still don't understand how some high schools in these small towns in the Southeast can produce more D1-A recruits on average than an entire mid-sized state???
