There's probably a good reason for that.

Just like you don't see any teams have the 4-6 Bear defense as their base. It's outdated and widely unused.

Re: What ever happened to the far/near formations

When you say near and far, are we talking old school Wing-T type stuff? That would be cool to have a Wing-T playbook, though I can see that why they don't have it is because no one in Division I runs it. There are some smaller schools that do though. The Georgia Tech playbook is somewhat similar as far as styles, but not quite the same as far as formations are concerned.

Re: What ever happened to the far/near formations

The wing T teams I have watch they don't really run the option. It's straight power football. They run maybe 5-10 plays. It's very predictable but damn near unstoppable. There is a small 1-A school here in lower Alabama called Sweetwater. One year trhey beat the 2A state champ and the 4A state champ. They won 3 straight state titles and 40 something straight games. Its just hard nosed defense and smashmouth offense. They field about 35 kidsthat will listen. Biggest one being maybe 230 pounds and he's the fullback. It's a thing of beauty. I'd hate to see their coach at a big school.

would also be helpful for high schools from TB. My HS's rival uses the Wing T
