Re: What kind of recruits will you go after?

I plan on doing a WSU dynasty, and they need tons of help.

First step may be a quarterback that will be able to start either as a rs freshman or rs sophmore...

Tall speedy recievers, big mauler offensive linemen, fast and freakishly strong linebackers, and a quarterback with a cannon arm.

Team needs...
but mostly Speed RBs
Balanced QBs
Tall WR/TE
D-Line is all about the pass rush
Speed DBs as well
ST is all about the kick power

Re: What kind of recruits will you go after?

The more I try to write this post, the more I realize my recruiting tendencies are way more elaborate than I thought when I first started typing.

If I'm trying to keep it short and sweet, the gist of it would be:

1) I always strive to maintain a full roster
2) I don't really care what guys are rated
3) I always play upper-classmen; everyone waits their turn

What I'm ultimately trying to simulate is that year-to-year dynamic where one year I'll have this team loaded with kids, and we'll go, say, 7-5; then, follow the progression, I'll have that year where 85% of my defense is composed of 3-year starters, all five of my offensive linemen are 5th-year seniors, etc., and that's the year we make a push for the NC; then the next year we go back to being full of first-time starters again.

Of course it never works out like that, lol, but that's the kind of thing I want to feel while playing Dynasty, where each year the team has a significantly different and easily identifiable chemistry and character, opposed to that feeling you get when you're just reloading every year.

Re: What kind of recruits will you go after?

As Va Tech, who I'll mostly play as:

QB: I'll go for probably one balanced guy then grab a couple of scrambling QBs. I've got Tyrod for a year and Juju behind him, so I'll be good for quick guys. I'll want probably one of each the first year if I can get them.

HB: Sure, I'm loaded, but I want an even balance of Power and Speed guys, plus a guy with some of each. I like to run about 65% of the time, and I like switching between power and speed guys, so having both is a premium for me.

TE: I'll recruit a few of them. I never seem to find decent fullbacks, so I usually convert a power HB who I don't see getting playing time at HB or a TE into my fullback. And I like to run a few times with my FB, so I like a balanced TE to convert. For pure TEs, I want one pass catching, quick one for red zone possessions, and another balanced one.

WR: Agility guys. Never had burners as VT. Always had possession guys. I'd like a good balance of Possession and Quick guys along with one burner.

OTs: I like guys with Pass and Run blocking abilities there. I like to run to the outside and run options, so I can't have a pure pass blocker or I'll get demolished. But I pass just enough to need tackles who can hold their own. Might get a couple of run specialists, but they will never play at the same time.

OG/C: Balanced Center. Always a balanced center. Both Guards will be run blocking specialists. Might get one balanced guy in case I need a fix at center.

K: Power. Always power. Accurate kicking is far too easy. Just need the leg with the slider down.

DE: Quick guys. I never worry about the outside run. I've got linebackers to cover for that. I want guys who can get to the quarterback in a hurry.

DT: I usually like quicker guys here too. Might get one monster guy for goal line sets. Running Va Tech's 4-4 (w/ formation subs to make it run correctly) lets me have some quicker down linemen.

OLBs: Pass oriented guys. I'm just good against the run myself, so having the guys who can steal me a pick or two help me out far more.

MLB: Here's my run stopper. Pure run stoppers here.

Rover: Just a guy who can do anything, of course. Pass defend, stuff the run, blitz, play deep. A little of everything. But I need him to be quick. Good acceleration, agility, and speed. Doesn't have to have high hit power, but it's a bonus if he does.

Safeties: For when not in the 4-4, I like him to be able to play man coverage. I like to send 5 guys nonstop, and I want to be able to have him line up in man and not worry about him. I don't mind having one guy to play in just the 4-4 and another to play a traditional safety spot and be deep most of the time as well.

Corners: Prefer them being able to press, but not a necessity. Don't care if they have the stickiest fingers ever either. Just want them to be able to stay with their man and knock the ball down.

Punter: Here I don't mind having an accurate guy. Able to just put the ball at the 3 and have it roll out of bounds.

Re: What kind of recruits will you go after?

QB: I like the '06 Florida method. Starting QB has good accuracy, arm strength doesn't really matter, and can move around a little bit. Height doesn't matter, he's in the shotgun. Then have a guy who can come in and pick up some yards on the ground every once in a while. If I can get a Tebow clone he will just stay in full time.

RB: I like to have a few types. Speed, power, and in between. Then play whoever is working for me. And a straight up power blocking FB

WR: Speed is great, but I always have a big possession guy (usually a TE)

On defense I change up my play calling based on what I can get. S/OLB hybrids are my favorite.

When I try to build up a D1A or some other bad team that's what usually happens to me. I usually have to start freshmen and sophomores my first couple years and when it gets to around year 4 or 5 in the dynasty, all my starters are juniors and seniors. The only difference is that instead of making a push for the national championship, it's usually more like a push for a bowl game or maybe a conference championship. It definitely does add a little something to the dynasty when you have a lot of the same players together for 3 years or so.
