Re: Who's good enough to pull off major upsets?

I took North Texas to a BCS bowl by scheduling the top 3 or 4 teams in the country and beating all of them. All-American, though. I was still pretty impressed with myself.

I can't remember if that was NCAA 09 or 10.

And I don't remember if the number was 3 or 4. I just know all my non-conference games were against the top however many teams in the nation.

Proper clock management gives you the best chance of winning in that situation, IMO.

I can't remember the last time I tried something like that, Toledo @ Ohio State I think. Those were on All-American with some realistic sliders I got off here. I don't remember anything other than I won. I was actually mad about it too.

In 09 a guy was recruiting for an open OD and I was wanting to play with Air Force for some reason so, I joined. He was confused cause people were Texas, USC, Notre Dame, etc. Anyways he scheduled OCC User games. I played the Texas guy Week 1 and won by idk 10 or something. He was all "You play with them all the time or what?" I told him no not ever really. Week 2 I quit cause I hate open OD's. I just ruined that guys season.

I think luck has a big part to do with it though in cases like that.

Yeah you can be skilled enough to hit open receivers or run through creases, but when using weak teams against elite ones receivers usually aren't open. There aren't creases. The QB throws off passes.

You can also call a 2 man blitz against a run, but when matched up with a superior team it wont matter half the time. So doing something like that can be really tough no matter how good you are.

Re: Who's good enough to pull off major upsets?

I rarely pull off these big upsets, but when I do it's in heart-stopping fashion. The two best examples:

In NCAA Football 2009, as Virginia in the Who Needs Rules online dynasty, I eeked out a win against juggernaut USC at home via a last-second field goal from 52 yards out by kicker Chris Hinkebein, whose overall rating may have been above 70 at best. Tailback Mikell Simpson, who would end up finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting to Colt McCoy, was the best offensive player on the field, totaling over 250 yards of total offense. Final score was 31 to 28.

In NCAA 2006 on the original XBOX, I had a short-lived dynasty with UCLA, but in that season pulled off a tremendous upset against - guess who - USC again, this time on a last-play Hail Mary pass from midfield. Drew Olsen was the quarterback, I have no clue who the receiver was. It wasn't Maurice Jones-Drew, though I did have him at tailback.

Basically, I need to play USC more so I can have lots of awesome games.

Another I just remembered: while I don't remember anything about the game, in NCAA Football 2002 or 2003 (forget which), I took North Carolina to Norman and beat the Oklahoma Sooners.

Not me, I haven't won a National Championship since NCAA 2003 (Harrington cover). I can't seem to ever break over the 9-4/10-3 hump.
