Green symbol in playbooks...what's it mean?

I noticed that some plays have a green symbol (kinda looks like a paperclip) on certain plays. What does that mean?

Re: Green symbol in playbooks...what's it mean?

You'll always see this on two plays side-by-side.

It's either a pass play next to a draw play, or a run play next to a play-action play.

One play sets up the other. If you break off a big run (20+ yards usually I think), then the play-action next to it is marked as set up. In the future, the opposing line-backers and safeties are more likely to bite on the play-action which leaves holes downfield for you to pass to.

You can set this up the other way as well. If you run the play-action and get a long TD strike, the linebackers and safeties are now less likely to bite on the hand-off because they think it's play action, so they stay back leaving more room for your running back to run up-field.

The green icon indicates plays that are linked (I think it's supposed to be chain links) and set each other up.

It is good to keep an eye on too. I ran the ball 20 straight times used one run play on 4 of those, it happened to be linked to a pass, i ran the pass play the corner bit on the PA and left my wideout wide open for an easy 80+ yd td.
