What determines team captains?

I just cut my defensive team captain because he sucked. Then the next year the team captain was the walk on punter 48 rated on USC!!!

Are team captains random or what?

I remember someone saying it's the players with the highest Awareness, whether or not that's true I don't really know.

I think that's false. I heard that too but it isn't very consistent. The ounter has 44 awareness.

I'd be happy if it were the highest rated player on both sides of the ball. At least then i could believe it lol.

Just checked my team, it's 2018 btw, and my team captains are the Upperclassmen with the highest AWR, one O-lineman, and one D-lineman, but considering how off yours was, I'm still not sure.
