Stopping the counter option

I was playing a guy using navy, and all he could do was run the counter option. The Qb is fast enough where I couldn't do anything to stop it. I tried man, zone, blitzing, blitzing corners, covering him with a safety.. but I couldn't hold him. He couldn't do anything on D so I won by 1 point (he went for 2 and fumbled the pitch)

Re: Stopping the counter option

well the option no douby it tough to stop as the "options" it gives a human player are really unfair in the hands of a good player lol

but the key is understanding how exactly he runs the counter option
first it's a counter so being aggressive to the initial movements are NOT key
next you must stop where he is going if he doesn't hand off if a triple counter option
if it's inside you can crash or slide DL inside, if offtackle you can user DE, LBs or safety

if it's outside I'd use a safety or CB and with the option attack the pitch arm with the strip preventing the pitch

use run commit with a safety valve player backed up to prevent the cutback or bouncing outside when you know exactly where he is going

and don't forget to contain all the DL for the outside stuff you know is coming

again counters feed off of guessing and aggressiveness so learn to strafe and make sure tackles
and don't get beat in the numbers game but learn to user a safety and put the SS in the box
