That's actually not entirely true. Some of the computer rankings, which collectively make up 1/3 of the BCS formula, use strength of schedule in their formulas.

It's only cheese if he put his corners in at DE or if Mallett did a backwards pump fake.

I wouldn't call Petrino's choice of play calls disrespectful. As an Arkansas fan, I did not want to see Mallet in there that late in the game against an aggressive blitzing defense after tweaking his shoulder earlier. The offense might not have produced as many points as expected earlier in the game, but it was already going down as a win and no matter if we put up 50 on ULM none of those points can carry over into next week. That being said, I have to think there was some method to the madness. Rather Petrino was wanting to get the starting offense more work or just wanted to put certain plays on film to look over later.
