Formation sub tricks..Add yours here.

Using formation subs... Use Ace Spread... Take the left slot WR and place your FB in his place and your TE as the right slot receiver.

Then set audibles as I -Normal or a Strong or weak Formation.

My example.. I go ACE SPREAD...line up.. audible to a Strong- Power-O play.

What this does most the time, is the computer puts a dime package to defend your 4 WR set, not knowing the slots are a FB and TE...when you audible to a power running formation, you have a FB and TE usually blocking DB's instead of LB's which makes for a great disadvantage.

Pitt does this a lot in real life, but not very successful because the defenses have the right personal on the field and is not confused with a FB lining up as a WR but for EA the computer doesn't always get it.

Also it spreads the defense out a lot so a HB Dive works great without even audibling.

My Audibles from ACE- SPREAD
x- Strong- Power-0
Triangle- I-Power -O
Square- Strong- PA Power-O
R1- Strong- Hb Blast
L1- Weak- FB dive.

I don't know if these are really tricks or not, but...

In the Wildcat, I substitute the TE for my best non-starter OL because the TE is not an eligible receiver, so I just want the best blocker in here. I also substitute the QB out for a receiver or some position (unless I have a QB capable of catching passing and running, but even now, I don't want him to get hurt). And I'll usually change the snaptaker (who I call the Wildback) to whatever player I have with both speed and the ability to pass.

Also, in I-Form Y-Trips, because there is no one left of the LT, the TE on the right-side is "covered up" by the split-end and thus not an eligible receiver. He does nothing but block. Therefore, I sub in the best non-starter OL in this formation as well. Generally speaking in this formation, I also put my fastest non-starter OL in as the FB and use Y-Trips as an alternate goal line formation. And since my TE isn't in the TE spot, I sub him in as the Slot receiver. He's a better blocker than a WR for when I run, and he's a bigger target on the few times I pass (or audible to a pass) in this formation, so he's good in the endzone.

I generally end up using I-Form Y-Trips between the 3 and 10 yard lines, and then switch to the bigger Goalline formation once I'm inside the 3. It works really well.

This may be cheap, but I love doing it.

The teams I've been lately online:
Oregon
Florida
Penn State

With Oregon I don't do much with formation subs. I just put Darron Thomas as my #1 QB and run my spread option offense. I've been having a lot of success running it online lately.

When I'm Florida I make 4-5 moves. I put Andre Debose as my I-Form Flex QB and run plays with him. No I don't run constant load options or any of that. Sometimes I'll just hand it off or toss it to Demps. My goal is to try and confuse my opponent. I also put him in Gator Heavy and run 4-5 plays from that formation.

QB Sweep
WR Jet Sweep
Jet Option
QB Blast

But my favorite, and probably most surprising to my opponent: z-screen. My WR comes in motion like the jet option, but I pass it to him with Debose. Unless it's manually covered by my opponent, I can usually get a first down with it. I ran it last night online with Auburn as my first play of the game and took it 80 yards to the house.

I also pick 3-4 other shotgun formations with Debose at QB. I've been running a ton of read options lately with some good success. Plus, when my opponent sees my offensive package in the play selection area they'll think I'm coming out with Debose at QB. Then wham! It's Brantley. If they had a run blitz set up I can exploit. It also helps that I run WR jet sweeps and read options (where I always hand it off) with Brantley too.

If I mix it up good enough I can keep my opponent guessing. When I bring out 3 WR sets and my opponent doesn't know who my QB is I practically start giggling. As the game progresses I mix in some play action, and boy does that begin to work nicely.

With Penn State I do the same thing as I do with Florida, except I put Stephon Green in the Debose position. I also keep Kevin Newsome at QB to give me more flexibility.

What I do isn't tricky, but damn effective. It adds a balance dimension to my offense. I've always been pass heavy, but now I have read option to add to my arsenal.

I formation sub SS to the OLB position in the 4-4 defense. This gives me the 4-2-5 in the 4-3 playbook. The plays are exactly the same. Now I can run 4-3 as my base and go 4-2-5 in certain situations.

I do the same thing to sub a Safety into one of my LB positions in the 3-2-6. The Quarters defense is just terrible.

I know Virginia Tech plays a SS at OLB in the 4-4. Call him the rover. He's basically a hybrid.
