Redshirt 101? [ncaa newbie]

a college football newbie here.
bear with me

i downloaded block-os rosters to do my dynasty and saw that redshirts were preset to the rosters.
the ign guide for the game explained what redshirts are nicely, so i understand the basics.
but on the roster a lot of the team is redshirted including all 3 of my left ends and two of my right ends.

this is where i got confused.
if they aren't eligible to play, who plays at those positions?
its tough coming in fresh to the game

on a side note i have 33 redshirted players.

Re: redshirt help

Redshirting a lot of guys is good... gives them time to develop and get their ratings increased over the years (33 is crazy high though).

If you have 5 players at DE redshirted, the system will normally default and place the next highest rated player (normally a DT or LB) in the depth chart.

I am in a 1-2 star dynasty and my base roster is so bad that the game actually suggested I have one of my WRs play both ways (starting at CB also).

Keep in mind that even if a guy is redshirted he's not "lost for the year"... if at any time you have no choice but to play one of them you can, you just lose their redshirt status.

yep. When you go to your depth chart to make a sub, you wont initially see a reshirted player as a backup. In order to remove a recruits redshirt status, click on the player you want to sub and then when the list expands, the player will be available to sub in and the game will ask if you are sure that you want to remove the recruits redshirt status....

Re: redshirt help

I might have misunderstood but when I read the op the first thing that came to mind is he is seeing (rs) freshman or (rs) soph...ect and thinkin these guys are redshirting, when in fact these guys are eligible to play and had already been redshirted earlier in their career, example: if u start a dynasty as tOSU 3rd string qb kenny guiton (#13) is a redshirt freshman that is eligible to play after using the redshirt as a true freshman during the 09-10 season

Thats how I read it too, these guys have been redshirted in previous years and thats why they have an rs next to there year (rs-Freshman). They are still able to play in the game without having them sit out since they were redshirted before.

buck/kmax, yep thats what i am seeing.

ok let me head back into my menu and straighten this out.
thanks a ton fellas

edit: if anyone is also using the Wyoming Cowboys and the real life rosters, who did u redshirt year one?

also would it be smart to just redshirt all freshman with lower overalls at a position of depth/strength?
