Re: My Prestige Rankings

Yah agree with a lot of them, but IMO prestige is more than 10 years. To ever consider being 6* I think you need to have great success over 30-40 years. IMO Boise will never be a 6*, nor will any team that never won a NC (in FBS of course). Respect by definition is 'Level of Respect One is Revered" which if you look at how they have finished in rankings they are not revered as the best team in any season. But to each his own. I also think schools like Alabama, Notre Dame should never be below a 5*.

Tough to win a championship when you are never given a chance.

As good as I think the TCU's and Boise's are, its tough to give them a true thought when they are in weaker conferences than the Big East. I know it takes two teams to make a deal, but play 3 ranked teams OoC and then beat your conference opponents pretty convincingly, then talk about a NC appearance. This is off topic though...

I also agree that Prestige should be about the past as much as the very recent past. A team with 4-5 Natl. Championships should probably have more prestige than a team with none 9 out of 10 times.

Join a respectable conference! And if u compare the all time greats of a school should also be a barometer included in the argument with very little weight.

Re: My Prestige Rankings

I do agree that NC's or some other long-term factor could be worked into your formula. As much as I like Boise and what they have done the past few years, they should not be above a 5* program.

VT and Boise shouldn't be 6*. Bama should, they were on probation from 02 to 07 so that explains the losses.

Re: My Prestige Rankings

If you're looking at a 10 year sample, then this is a great way to figure out team prestige, but I believe you have to give a little weight to a team's success (prestige) over the last 50 years.

I'd make the following modifications based on that:
(I listed where I think they should be and if I moved them up or down)

Alabama 6* up
Virginia Tech 5* down
Boise 5* down
Oregon 5* down
Texas Tech 4* down
Oregon St 4* down
Nebraska *5 up
Notre Dame *5 up
Georgia Tech *4 up
Michigan *5 up
