Local Multiplayer Dynasties?

I tried the 'create a new coach' approach to attempt to have a multiplayer offline dynasty with my friend but after we created the new coach, it still didn't allow a user (my friend) to control the new coach's team. Granted, I didn't advance past the first off-season, but it would only allow the original coach/team to make changes to redshirting, recruiting board, custom schedule, etc. Has anybody else had this problem? Maybe I need to advance it first or maybe I am doing something wrong. Any thoughts?
