Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading that player progression is heavily tied in with coach prestige this year. As many people have pointed out, coaches are vastly overrated out of the box. If that is the case then its no surprise that players are progressing the way they do with all the A- to A+ coaches in the game. This is especially true if assistant coaches factor in.

On a side note, I simmed a season of dynasty and noticed that instead of retiring because he was at the max age, Jo Pa went from 68-22 (the minimum age). #facepalm

Maybe, but the coaches progress way too fast. For example coaches can go from D+ to A+ in just one year. So editing them down is pointless.

What if you turn coaching contracts off? Will this have any impact on player progression?

Exactly. So maybe it would make it so the progression of coaches would occur as quickly, so there would be fewer high rated coaches, which would maybe mean slower progression?
