2 questions for you:
1. When did you get your Xbox? If at Launch or relatively close, proceed to question 2
2. What does your drive tray look like?
a. A U-Shaped Tray
b. A Circular-Like Tray
c. A Tray with 2 circles in the front left and right
If you answered "a" to the 2nd question, best advice is to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and see if they can fix your drive for free. If you have a warranty you should be good to go. The turnaround time is quite good from what I hear.
WARNING: They may tell you that you have to pay $100+ for the fix. Then it's up to you whether it is worth it or if you should just return your Xbox to EB or something (they were having a $100 turn-in deal) and get a new one for cheaper than it would cost to fix the old one. EB will go and refurbish yours of course.
