Need Refresher on Setting Up Plays

I know they added the setup plays a couple of years ago, but I don't remember exactly how they work.

Isn't there usually 1 running play that's associated with 1 passing play - and when you've run the running play a few times successfully, then the screen indicates the 1 passing play is "setup"?

The reason I'm confused is, I usually have my play calling set with "Ask Coach", so I'm never sure what plays are linked together.

Any advice and tips would be appreciated.

the gist is to run plays that have the exact same setup where most of the offense makes the same gestures as on the running play as they do on the passing one. A good example of this is the Power O running play from the strong I formation and the PA Power O.

So if I understand you correctly, I should probably stay with the formations instead of using the coach's suggestions.

Now, is there some sort of indicator as to when a play is actually setup?

It flashes "Setup".
