Answered your own question, run right up the middle. Eventually he will get out of it or die a slow death.

Welcome to a random online game. I hardly ever play those anymore.

I would just keep running up the middle for 4-5 yds at a time. Nothing wrong with working the clock on the way to a TD.

Re: How do you beat a guy playing the 1-5-5??

I think people out-think themselves. They seem to think you have to play balanced to play "real". In the real world, teams take what is given to them. If you can run up the middle, pound the ball until he changes.

I was playing an OD game where the guy was coming in in 4-3 and playing exclusively to stop the run. My team, being run oriented, kept coming out in run plays but audibling to quick passes. After an INT and a stalled drive, I came out in four wide. He kept coming out in 4-3 and 4-2-5, desperately trying to prevent the run, so I torched him for 52 points through the air running the run-n-shoot.

Don't try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Take what they are giving you and use their tendency against them. Most people like that have no clue what to do when their bread-n-butter no longer works.
