A roadmap is requested: How to build up a small school to a powerhouse!

Usually my dynasty I pick a big time school and roll with it. I did two season w michigan when i first got the game but now I want to try something different. I chose Nevada after looking at some of the smaller schools and have never been more lost ha ha. They are B average on all side of the ball and play in the WAC.
My first game with them was a wipe out, Oregon beat me 51-17.
I have a solid MLB, a pretty decent WR and a meh QB.
How can I build this school up? What's a good recruiting strategy?

Nevada is not exactly a small school.... I was thinking when I saw your post title you were taking over a MAC or Sunbelt team.

It really depends on what kind of Offense and Defense you like to run. I usually build up the Offense first. Then move to defense. Depending on what you already have. I like to try to get two solid RB and a fast WR with Possesion WR in my first recruiting class. I also try to get at least 2 qb's and also try to get 5 OL in my first year. That gives you a good base for the O. After that then I focus on D and build a Secondary first then LB's then DL. Hope this helps and good luck building small schools is fun once you get your guys.

I'd be interested to here what others do. Here's what I do:

The first season I look at as a wash. It's more like a try out for anyone other than seniors. Recruiting wise, i decide on my system and recruit to that. Within that, I start of recruiting defense and offensive lineman. I'll usually throw a QB and low rated RB with decent skills in there later on. The first couple years of recruiting will be heavy on JUCO's also. I always make sure I recruit 1 QB every year.

Usually I have a decent team in year two and by years 3 and 4 I'm having good winning seasons.

I emphasize find a system and recruit towards it. Don't pay so much attention to how many stars the recruit is.

And name any time in the past 3-5 years they've been close to that. Their not a permanent national fixture ala USC, Oklahoma, OSU, etc
